Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal data The Weather To Go collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who We Are

The Weather To Go is a UK-based travel weather recommendation service. We help you find holiday destinations that match your preferred weather conditions. References to "we", "us" or "our" in this policy refer to The Weather To Go. If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at [email protected].

2. Data We Collect

When you create an account we collect your email address (required), your name (optional), whether your email address has been verified, and a profile image if you choose to provide one. We record the date and time your account was created and last updated. When you log in, we record your IP address and browser user agent as part of your session record. This is used to maintain your login session and for security purposes. When you save a holiday search, we store the search preferences you entered — such as your departure airport, travel month, temperature range, activity preferences, and holiday style — along with any destination you chose to pin from your results. We also store the match score associated with that saved search. If you use our site with analytics cookies enabled, we collect anonymised usage data including pages visited, links clicked, and device type. See Section 8 (Cookies) for full details. We do not collect sensitive personal data such as health information, financial details, or payment card numbers.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your account data to provide the service you signed up for, including keeping you logged in and storing your saved holiday searches so you can return to them. We use the holiday preferences you provide — such as travel month, temperature range, activities, and holiday style — to calculate a personalised Match Score for each destination and rank our recommendations accordingly. This calculation happens automatically based solely on the preferences you enter. It is a recommendation tool to help you find a suitable holiday destination; it does not make decisions about your legal rights, financial situation, access to services, or any other matter of similar significance. We use technical data (such as pages visited and device type, collected only with your consent) to understand how our site is used and to improve it. We may send you service-related emails such as account confirmations. We will only send marketing communications if you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the following legal bases: contract performance (to provide the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (to improve our service and prevent fraud), legal obligation (where required by law), and consent (for optional analytics cookies). Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share your data only where necessary to operate our service. GoDaddy / Airo platform: Our service is hosted on GoDaddy's Airo platform, which provides our web hosting, database, and server infrastructure. As our infrastructure provider, GoDaddy has access to data stored within the platform at an infrastructure level. C2 / GoDaddy Insights: We use GoDaddy's built-in analytics service to understand how our site is used. This service only loads after you have given explicit analytics consent, and it does not receive personally identifiable information. See Section 8 (Cookies) for more detail. Weather data providers: We retrieve weather data from Visual Crossing and sea-temperature data from NOAA CoastWatch ERDDAP. These are server-to-server requests for destination and climate data only. We do not send any personal user data to these services. Travel providers: Our results pages include links to Booking.com and Skyscanner. These are outbound links; clicking them takes you to those providers' own websites, where their own privacy policies apply. We do not currently pass any personal data or affiliate tracking parameters to these providers. We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of The Weather To Go, our users, or others. BetterAuth, the authentication library we use, is self-hosted on our own infrastructure. It is not a separate external service and does not transmit your data to a third party.

6. International Transfers

GoDaddy is a US-based company. By using our service, your data may be processed on infrastructure operated by GoDaddy in the United States or other countries outside the UK. GoDaddy's data processing agreements and applicable standard contractual clauses govern these transfers. Visual Crossing and NOAA are also US-based services. As noted above, only destination and climate queries are sent to these services — no personal user data is transferred. Booking.com is headquartered in the Netherlands (EU) and Skyscanner operates in the UK and US. Their own privacy policies govern any data they collect when you visit their sites via our links.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you request account deletion, we permanently delete your user record, all active and expired login sessions, any linked OAuth account records, all saved holiday searches, and any pending email-verification tokens associated with your email address. This deletion is immediate upon your request. We do not retain personal data after account deletion except where there is a genuine legal or regulatory requirement to do so. Our weather and climate datasets — including historical weather observations and sea-temperature records — are business data that do not contain personal user information. These are retained indefinitely as part of our service.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, restrict or object to certain processing, and data portability. To exercise any of these rights, please email [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data correctly.

9. Cookies

We use the following cookies and browser storage on our site: Essential: A session cookie set by our authentication system keeps you logged in. Without this cookie the login feature cannot function. This cookie does not require your consent. Analytics (non-essential): We use GoDaddy's C2 / Insights analytics service to understand how our site is used. This service only loads after you click Accept on our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics data is collected. Your consent choice is stored in your browser's local storage. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time by visiting our Cookie Policy page. Withdrawing consent will not affect your ability to use the service. Booking.com and Skyscanner do not set cookies on The Weather To Go. Their own cookies and tracking technologies apply only after you click through to their websites.

10. Automated Recommendations

Our Match Score is calculated automatically from the preferences you enter — your departure airport, travel month, preferred temperature range, activities, scenery, and holiday style. We use these inputs to score and rank destinations so that the most relevant results appear first. This is a recommendation tool designed to help you discover suitable holiday destinations. The score is based entirely on your stated preferences and publicly available weather data. It does not make decisions about your legal rights, financial situation, creditworthiness, access to services, or any other matter of legal or similarly significant effect. You are free to disregard the score and explore any destination you choose.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
